NFL insider says Rooneys can force Mike Tomlin to fire Matt Canada

Ownership of the Pittsburgh Steelers may want Matt Canada to leave, regardless of what head coach Mike Tomlin thinks. He’s so bad.

The Canadian offense was one of the worst in professional football this past season. Sure, a young attack and aging midfield are partly to blame for that fact, but ultimately ownership goes to the OC.

The Steelers know it can be a tough transition under Canada for these facts. That’s why – according to Tomlin’s comment – it looks like they’re giving him another year to roll out his system with a new quartet of defenders.

“I am optimistic about Matt and what he can do. I admit that we took a step back. There are some obvious tangible reasons why that happens… we have to get better. We intend to,” said Tomlin.

However, according to NFL Insider’s Mike Florio, the Steelers’ ownership can step in and make changes on its own.

Steelers: Can the Rooneys really fire Matt Canada?

The easy answer is yes, they have the right to do so.

Canada’s plans were clearly flawed last season, although some of that can be blamed on personnel. Steelers Depot’s Alex Kozora recently recounted the team’s failed missions and morale mistakes for the Chiefs in a Twitter thread, which begins below.

If Steelworker’ If the staff can’t figure out the Canadian system after the season, it’s probably not a good fit. OC previously coached in college and had his greatest success at the University of Pittsburgh before turning professional.

Roethlisberger has played badly this season. The attack line is very annoying. Damn, even the players in the Steelers skill position let some people down, plus JuJu Smith-Schuster got injured. Najee Harris talks the only positive from the 2021-22 season for Pittsburgh.

But at some point, the person in charge is responsible, as is the person responsible for recruiting Canada in the first place. NFL insider says Rooneys can force Mike Tomlin to fire Matt Canada
