Neymar and Gabriel Jesus Have Matching Tattoos Post-Olympics: Here’s Why? » FirstSportz

Neymar and Gabriel Jesus celebrate at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Gabriel Jesus and Neymar both have similar tattoos depicting their aspirations to become professional soccer players when they were little. The two who started from humble beginnings have grown into two of Brazil’s most promising athletes and have scooped multiple awards at the highest level.

The two knew exactly where they came from with their ink, and their journeys were comparable. Neymar made it first, and Jesus soon followed, having been inspired by the former Barcelona Star. Before the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, when Brazil progressed to the end and defeated Germany on penalties to win gold on home soil, the two side by side showed off their matching tattoos.

Jesus has been tattooed on his forearm while Neymar has one on his left leg. Both tattoos depict a small child in a slum, holding a soccer ball under his arm and wearing a Brazilian cap, looking up at the buildings and dreaming of fame.

Before becoming a colleague and friend of Neymar, Jesus, who rose at Palmeiras before joining Manchester City, was just a fan of the Brazilian. Additionally, he believes that the tattoo “means everything in one picture” and embodies the aspirations of many Brazilians.

In a 2017 article for The Players’ Tribune, Jesus explained: “When we won the gold medal it was a fantastic moment for us and for the country. Neymar got a tattoo ahead of the tournament and I was inspired to get a similar one because it really says it all in one picture.”

“It’s a little kid and he’s standing at the bottom of a hill looking up at the favelas. He’s holding a soccer ball under his arm and dreaming. It’s not just me and it’s not just Neymar. There are so many Brazilians. And that’s what winning gold meant for us.”

Jesus will sign a five-year, £50million deal with Arsenal after scoring 95 goals with City and winning four Premier League championships in five years. He will don the No. 9 jersey left by Alexandre Lacazette and is expected to be the main man for the Gunners.
