New York University Wins DIII Women’s Golf Championship

New York University won the 2019 NCAA DIII Women’s Golf Championship. It was the first national title for the Violets’ women’s golf program, and the third team championship in campus history. NYU overcame Williams College in the final round, ending the day with a total of 6 over 294 and 1217 of the tournament.

Williams College’s Cordelia Chan won the individual title after even shooting in the final round to finish with a tournament total of 296.

The 2019 DIII Women’s Golf Championship took place at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas with Mary Hardin-Baylor College and the Harris County-Houston Athletic Commission as hosts.

25 teams and six individual players appeared on the field. Championships including both team and individual competitions are conducted simultaneously. After 54 holes of play, the field was cut for the top 15 teams and the top six individuals not from one of those teams to compete on the final day. In the team competition, each team’s four low scores for each day count towards the team’s total score.

Williams College entered the final round with a field lead after finishing the third round at more than 51 and leading the field by 12+ points, eight more than anyone else on the day. NYU, the leader entering the third round of Thursday, is in second place with 59 more. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps comes in third with 62 more. Rhodes’ Emily Salamy is moving up the ranks as individual leader at just over seven years old, with Williams’ Cordelia Chan and Center College’s Bailey Plourde trailing in second with eight more.
