New Oregon Coach, Dan Lanning, Has Great Head Coaching Experience

The Oregon football program is getting a new head coach with some pretty unique coaching experience. Turns out this isn’t Dan Lanning’s first head coach gig.

When Dan Lanning accepts gig as head coach of Oregon Ducks, some people’s concern about him is his lack of head coach experience.

Lanning was a talented coordinator who was a key member of the team coordinating and designing one of the best defenses college football had seen in a while, but the football job in Oregon was a quite a prestigious head coaching opportunity.

Is there someone who doesn’t have any previous head coach experience in charge?

Well, that will be something that will be a point of interest for some Oregon football fans. Rest assured, Duck fans, Lanning really isn’t the head coach’s first time. Well, at least not technically. He has some pretty unique head coaching experience that many others may not have.

Obviously, he has some pretty valuable head coaching experience. According to Lanning, he once led a “damn” third-grade basketball team.

Lanning is taking over Oregon after Mario Cristobal left in controversial fashion so he could lead the Miami Hurricanes. While this is Lanning’s first real head-coach job, he’s amassed a bit of experience over the past few years.

Lanning coached at the high school level from 2008 to 2010. He ended up as a graduate assistant at Pitt, then moved to Arizona State, and then Sam Houston State. In 2015, Lanning was on the board of directors Nick Saban, a graduate assistant for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

After a stop in Memphis, Lanning made his way to Georgia and now he will lead the Ducks.
