New Avengers Movies Announced: Secret Wars and The Kang Dynasty

Get ready for some Secret Wars.

Marvel Studios’ second endgame drew more focus during the company’s Blockbuster presentation at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday. Studio head Kevin Feige announced that two new Avengers films will complete Phase 6: Avengers: The Kang Dynasty in theaters May 2, 2025 and Avengers: Secret Wars in theaters November 7, 2025.

The announcement makes clear that the multiversal shenanigans of Loki, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are leading the Marvel Cinematic Universe to a catastrophic crossover event to match all crossover events to end – quite literally it could redesign the basic fabric of the MCU from the ground up.

It’s all about a 2015 Marvel comics crossover miniseries called Secret Wars, reminiscent of an earlier crossover miniseries from the mid-1980s also called Secret Wars. In the earlier iteration, every Marvel character imaginable is pitted against each other when a character called the Beyonder transports them all to a planet called Battleworld. It was a more or less blunt ploy to speed up toy sales and isn’t particularly appreciated by fans.

The 2015 version took many of the same ideas but employed them in a far more narratively complex storyline. This time the catalyst is the incursion between the main Marvel Universe (Earth-616) and the Ultimate Marvel Universe (Earth-1610), causing the destruction of both. As a result, iterations of many Marvel characters live in a new, post-apocalyptic universe called Battleworld, overseen by every version of Thor in the multiverse called the Thor Corps and ruled by Sheriff Strange.

Getting to this storyline, however, requires at least a couple of critical characters to make their MCU debut, most notably the Fantastic Four and their main nemesis Victor Von Doom, as well as a character named Molecule Man.
