As the Brooklyn Nets continue to pause and trust that New York City’s vaccination order is lifted and Kyrie Irving can play in home games again, Nets coach Steve Nash sees a feeling hopes are renewed from the 29-year privilege that a goal might come in the next few weeks.
“I would say he’s locked down,” Nash said after Wednesday’s practice. “Kyrie was great on the training floor. He’s great at movie sessions. He’s creating dialogue about aspects of our play. So I sensed real focus and urgency from him. And so if that’s any indication, I’d say he’s getting excited at the prospect of being allowed to play in all of our games and hopefully in the short term. ”
Why Steve Nash is excited to bring Kyrie Irving to every game in Brooklyn
Nash’s comments come after the Mayor of New York City Eric Adams said earlier Wednesday that he hopes the vaccination order will eventually be lifted, similarly, restrictions have begun to shift in various urban communities across the United States, which will allow unvaccinated workers, like Irving, to return to work without restrictions.
“I can’t wait to get the job done” Adams told journalists Wednesday when asked about whether New York City plans to begin the transition away from vaccination restrictions similar to those of Boston, Philadelphia and Washington, DC.
“I take my hat off to New Yorkers – through masks, vaccines, through social distancing, we’ve come to terms with the uncertainty, the fear of COVID. I’m really proud of how we’ve reacted as New Yorkers. And every morning I see my medical professionals. Because I always declared that I would go with science. I’m not going to get ahead of the science, because I’m ready to take all this and get back to normal. “
Nash says that anytime the order is lifted, he feels Irving will be ready to play in every match. The Nets have only 23 standard games left of the season.
“I think he’s working to be able to play in every game,” Nash said. “So if the duty is lifted, the expectation will be that he can play in all of our games. I think that’s what he’s been waiting for and what he’s excited about, and if given the opportunity, the plan and goal is to play nightly.”
