Netflix has placed a series order for Shea Serrano’s comedy Neon.
The streaming service has placed an order for eight episodes of the series. Tyler Dean Flores (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, The Dark Knight Rises), Emma Ferreira (Transplantation, Learn to Swim), Jordan Mendoza (Ziwe, Beavis & Butt-Head) , and Courtney Taylor (Insecure, Abbott Elementary) will star. According to the official logline, the series “focuses on three friends who move to Miami from a small Florida town in hopes of making it big in the world of reggaeton.”
Flores plays Santi, described as “an aspiring reggaeton artist who, with the help of friends Ness (Ferrerira) and Felix (Mendoza) and A&R rep Mia (Taylor), hopes to become the biggest reggaeton star in the world.” Or at least rent it.”
Flores will be repeated by Paradigm and Untitled Entertainment. Ferreira is represented by OAZ and 3 Arts Entertainment.
Serrano created the series and is serving as executive producer. Max Searle is also executive producer and showrunner on the series. SB Projects’ Scooter Braun, Scott Manson and James Shin will also serve as executive producers, while Kyle Vinuya will serve as co-executive producer. Mendoza is a consulting producer on the series.
Serrano is an author, screenwriter and journalist. He is the first Mexican to be a New York Times Bestselling Author three times. His first book, The Rap Year Book, was previously adapted into a six-episode docu-series for AMC. His second book, Basketball (And Other Things) was voted one of the best books he read of 2017 by President Obama. As a TV writer, he previously sold the comedy series Primo to Amazon’s Freevee (formerly IMDb TV). ). The show is based on his life in San Antonio, TX.

The series marks the latest collaboration between SB Projects, Searle and Mendoza. Both Searle and Mendoza are working on the hit FXX comedy series “Dave,” based on the life of Dave “Lil Dicky” Burd, with SB Projects producing the show.
