Netflix orders Horizon Zero Dawn series God of War from Amazon

During a business meeting earlier today, Sony confirmed it is working with Netflix and Amazon Prime to create TV shows based on God of War and horizon. The company also confirmed a Gran Turismo Show was in development. These shows join the growing list of video game TV shows to be announced or confirmed as Hollywood and streaming platforms continue to plunder more franchises for future blockbusters and hit shows.

As reported by VGC, and sighted by Benji sales on TwitterSony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra confirmed during a Q&A session in today’s Sony Business Briefing that the company is working on three different TV shows based on popular PlayStation franchises. According to Vinciquerra, Amazon has bought up the streaming rights to one God of War Series for which Netflix has secured the TV rights horizonand a show based on Sony’s racing series, Gran TurismoShe’s coming too, but doesn’t have a streaming home yet.

We already knew about that God of War tv showhow meeting had already reported in March about its existence and the commitment of Amazon. But now it has been officially confirmed by Sony and PlayStation.

For those looking for more detail, well… there’s not much more to share at the moment. We can embrace the new God of War Show is based on the last games and maybe that these will all be live-action shows, but that’s just speculation. For some reason part of my brain thinks so Gran Turismo Show could be a reality show about people who drive cars and make money to get better cars and win cups. But right now we have no idea what those shows will be.

These three shows are added to that growing list of upcoming and confirmed video game TV show adaptations. Oh and don’t forget that HBO does a last of us series as well.

Will video game TV shows have a better track record than video game movies? Hopefully. It would be really hard to make it worse.
