Netflix surprised Tekken fans by announcing Tekken Bloodlines, a 3D animated series starring Jin Kazama. The game will be based on Tekken 3 and will focus on the events where Jin loses his mother to the monstrous Ogre. He then goes to training with his grandfather, Heihachi Mishima. The series is set to premiere sometime in 2022.
The trailer shows Jin’s early training with his mother before the ogre’s arrival. Then the trailer reveals scenes of Jin’s training with Heihachi. The trailer also offers brief glimpses of classic Tekken characters like Paul Phoenix and King. It is unknown how long the series will be or if the series will cover more than just the Tekken 3 story.
Bloodline wouldn’t be Tekken’s first anime feature. There was a Tekken: The Motion Picture starring Jin’s father Kazuya that was released in 1998. In a way, Bloodlines can be seen as a sequel to this original Tekken anime since The Motion Picture ended with Jin as a child. There was the 3D animated film Blood Vengeance, released in 2011.
Two critically-planned live-action Tekken films were also released in 2009 and 2014. The 2009 Tekken The film also starred Jin, played by actor Jon Foo, while the sequel was a prequel called Kazuya’s revenge and played Jin’s father.
