“Need to check 2017 tape, KD was actually the bus driver” JJ Redick disagrees with Charles Barkley regarding Kevin Durant’s role in the Warriors dynasty

Kevin Durant has even been taunted and trolled by his former teammates this season. Kevin Durant’s legacy was called into question after the Warriors won their second title without him and tied their record with him. When the dust settles, Kevin Durant will still be considered one of the game’s all-time top scorers, but there are a few events that have scarred his career, including his decision to join the Golden State Warriors to wrap up the two rings of his career to win. Regardless of how KD used it, he was still phenomenal during his time with the Warriors.
The streets were filled with ecstasy as the Bay Area brought home its mastermind Steve Kerr and King, Stephen Curry and his championship heroes, holding aloft their pride and the Larry O’Brian trophy as San Francisco swung into the celebrations sunned. This would have rubbed salt on Kevin Durant’s already wounded 2021-22 season when he fell out of the playoffs against eventual finalists, the Boston Celtics.
“You don’t want to see us next year” These were the words of Stephen Curry on May 21stSt, 2021 after a disappointing loss to the Grizzlies in the Play-In tournament. About 11 months later, the Warriors have risen and claimed what is theirs, their opponents have bowed and the haters are nowhere to be seen as the Golden State Warriors win their 4th NBA titles in 8 seasons.

“He’s just wrong” JJ Redick and Charles Barkley get into a heated debate over Kevin Durant
Kevin Durant left the Golden State Warriors after two triumphant rings in the NBA to team up with Kyrie Irving for another championship shot. He was a force to be reckoned with while he was with the Warriors, winning two Finals MVPs in San Francisco and spearheading alongside Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. Unfortunately, there are many who believe that Durant was not the Warriors’ bus driver, but was a bus driver during the Warriors’ two championship runs. Charles Barkley has been one of the most vocal analysts on the subject.
Former NBA player JJ Redick discussed this topic and openly said that this time Charles Barkley was wrong. Redick then discussed Durant’s Finals performances during his two title runs with the Warriors, in which KD won both Finals MVPs. In the 2017 series, he averaged 35.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 5.4 assists.
“I love Charles Barkley and he was so great for our game. He’s wrong about that, he’s just totally wrong. Calling Kevin Durant anything other than the bus driver on these Warriors teams, and that’s not, I want to be clear, that’s not a slap at Steph Curry.
There’s no doubt that Kevin Durant is a top 10 scoring talent of all time because he has no comparison as a 6’10 inch sniper with a wingspan over 7 feet. In terms of talent, Durant has a solid case for being one of the most uniquely unstoppable players to ever play the game. However, he has faced massive criticism since leaving the Wariors and having no influence. Redick wasn’t the only analyst supporting Durant’s decision to hit Chuck back. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst also discussed the matter on “Get Up,” saying something similar to what Redick was pointing out.
While both Irving and Durant joined the Nets in the summer of 2019, so far it’s been an era of disappointment and untapped potential. The Nets’ Big 3, consisting of Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden, played just 16 games together, making it difficult to concede their names in full. Durant missed a quarter of this season with a knee injury, Irving missed almost two thirds by refusing to get vaccinated and Harden called for a trade – one that brought back Ben Simmons, who still hasn’t played.
It’s certainly a triple-double of troubles, troubles and more troubles for the Nets and KD as they face many issues financially and technically. From finding a way for the team to break through the low points and win a championship, the team must also take care of the business side of things and ensure they can continue to financially support the franchise to remain competitive in the future.
Despite the fact that Durant was great with the Warriors, he has yet to win an NBA championship where he leads the team and isn’t surrounded by three other superstars. Once KD achieves that, we certainly won’t dare anyone to dismiss his legacy in the league, but until then, people will always find a way to discredit his championships.
