NC State coach Dave Doeren urges NCAA to cancel Holiday Bowl

NC State head coach Dave Doeren is unhappy with the NCAA for not forcing UCLA to rescind the Holiday Bowl, which was canceled due to COVID-19.
Matches canceled because of COVID-19 are a reality many teams have to face this year. However, the circumstances surrounding the Holiday Bowl cancellation are somewhat unique.
NC State officials had no idea UCLA was even dealing with severe COVID-19 issues until the game was canceled just hours before the game started.
Head coach Dave Doeren vented his frustration at it all when the NCAA decided UCLA didn’t need to cancel the game.
NC State Head Coach Dave Doeren Criticizes NCAA
“In my opinion, NCAA stands for No Clue At All. I don’t really care what they say about it,” Doeren told Pack Pride. “We took a roster of people down there who have no problems being lively, practicing every day, doing everything right and not getting a chance to play the game. As far as I’m concerned, we beat them, they can’t even come on.”
Doeren points out that the guidelines for the College Soccer Round would have a team lost under identical circumstances. He believes the Holiday Bowl should have been adjusted to similar standards.
The player will not have the opportunity to play either way. So why is Doeren so indignant about canceling instead of canceling his account?
If the Wolfpack had won, they would have gone 10-3 this season. Extra wins bring bigger head coach bonuses ranging from $100,000 for 9 wins to $150,000 for 10, per Stewart Mandel.
In that context, it makes sense why Doeren was vocal in his criticisms.
