The Phoenix Suns were two wins away from winning the first NBA championship in franchise history. They held a 2-0 lead over the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA Finals but lost the next four games in part to a stellar performance by Giannis Antetokounmpo.

That year, the Suns held the best record in the league, winning 64 of 82 games. This secured them first place in the Western Conference.

The Suns, looking to lift the Larry O’Brien trophy for the first time ever, must defeat the New Orleans Pelicans first in the opening round. The Pelicans won two NBA play-in tournament games to secure the No. 8 seed in the West.
