NBA COVID failure: Isaiah Thomas, Tyler Johnson on the list of players with 10-day contracts

With over 70 players in COVID health and safety protocols and the Omicron variant propagates with incredible speed, NBA and the players federation have agree to the new rules to help teams compile a more complete list. Teams will be allowed to sign a replacement for each player who tests positive for COVID-19 and they will request sign at least one substitute if two players test positive, at least two substitutes if three are positive and at least three if four or more players test positive, per ESPN.
The new regulations, which will be in effect until January 19, stipulate that the wages of substitute players will not count towards the salary cap or luxury tax. When a team has multiple COVID cases on its roster and must sign a replacement, a player must be ready at the start of that team’s next game.
To play an NBA game, both teams are required to have eight players on hand. The league has postponed seven games this season, and several teams have sloppy.
Before the rule change, there was a wave of signings using the difficulty exception, which allowed a team to temporarily bypass the roster limit. In a particularly absurd case, Chicago Bulls Signed Stanley Johnson to a 10-day contract on December 9, only to have him test positive two days later, What Coach Billy Donovan Said, “We need a hard for a hard right now.” The Bulls played only one game before Johnson ran out of 10 days, the results of two were postponed and he was inactive because of it, isolating under health and safety protocols.
You may know that Isaiah Thomas is a member of Los Angeles Lakers, joined the group following in the footsteps of 42 point performance on G League debut. You may not find that, as of Monday, CJ Miles is a member of Boston Celtics, joined the team almost immediately after signing with G League Ignite.
If you’re having trouble keeping track of who’s gone where, here’s a group-by-group list of recent 10-day contracts, along with the date they signed (or, in some cases, the reported signing date). ) :
