The bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling will defend his belt against the former champion TJ Dillashaw. After a USADA suspension in 2019, former champion Killashaw returned to the octagon and picked up a win over top prospect Cory Sandhagen. Dillashaw will face the Funk Master for the 135lb title. Dillashaw wants to make history and win the title again.
The Funk Master (21-3) is on a 7-fight win streak to claim the belt, twice defeating then-champion Petr Yan in the process. In his last fight, the champion successfully defended his title against ex-champion Yan. The champion also has victories over top bantamweight in Cory Sandhagen and Pedro Munhoz.
On the other hand, Killashaw (18-4) has had just one fight against former title challenger Cory Sandhagen after returning to the octagon following his suspension. After twice defeating then-champ Cody Garbrandt. He transitioned to flyweight to challenge champion Henry Cejudo. Dillashaw lost the fight and subsequently relinquished his bantamweight title for USADA violations.

TJ Dillashaw reflects on his upcoming fight with Aljamain Sterling in an interview on The MMA Hour
In an interview with Ariel Helwani about the MMA lesson, Killashaw discussed his upcoming title fight with The Funk Master, his USADA test. Helwani also addressed how several people in the MMA community have said that Dillashaw was gifted the title shot. While discussing his upcoming title fight with champion The Funk Master, Killashaw stated that he has no worries about fighting the champion as he considers him more of an athlete than a fighter.
Dillashaw explained in the interview, “[He is] not like a dangerous fighter. He’s not someone to go out with and worry about finishing or being put down. I’ve always known he’s awesome and has some great skills at what he does. but to me, when I look at him, he’s not a fighter, he’s more of an athlete.”
In response to Killashaw’s comment disregarding the champion’s skills in the MMA lesson, the champion took to Twitter to respond. The Funk Master sent a warning to the former champion. He wrote, “My fists will speak on October 22nd.”
On October 22nd, fight fans will witness these two battle it out for the title. It will be interesting to see if Dillashaw reclaims the throne or if the Funk Master continues and maintains his dominance.
