This week, a 51-year-old Texas man was behind bars after he allegedly stabbed his wife to death over a photo of her with another man. Authorities say Ismael Meza Medrano then call 911 and tell the emergency dispatcher about the brutal murder of a 50-year-old man Maria Elena Garza.
According to a Press Release from the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office, deputies on March 17, 2022 at approximately 10:15 a.m. answered a 911 call at a home located in the 2900 block of Davis Street in rural Edinburgh. Delegates were told that the caller was a male and claimed that “he killed his wife,” according to the statement. Authorities said the caller also provided the dispatcher with the address where the killing is believed to have taken place.
Upon arrival at the scene, first responders entered the home and are said to have found “the body of a lifeless woman” inside. The offspring was later identified as Garza. A male with “apparently life-threatening injuries” was also found in the home. The man was later identified as Medrano, Garza’s husband and who is believed to have made the initial 911 call.
HCSO deputies put Medrano under house arrest and charged him with murder. He is currently being held at the Hidalgo County Jail. Justice of Peace Jason Pena put Medrano’s bond at $1,000,000 cash or bail bond, online arrest record only.
Hidalgo hạt County Sheriff Eddie Guerra Over the weekend said that Medrano’s injuries were self-inflicted and that he was “currently receiving medical treatment” for his injuries and “expected to recover.”
Affidavit of probable cause obtained by the Brownsville Herald allegedly provided more details regarding the domestic violence attack against Garza.
“Mate a mi esposa,” Medrano said when calling 911. When translated, the Spanish sentence means, “I killed my wife.”
According to Emissary, the affidavit suggests the attack may have been related to a photo someone had sent to Medrano and his adult son. The photo is said to show Garza “hugging and kissing” another man.
In an interview with a county investigator, the alleged son said that he and his father both received a text message from an unknown number that contained a photo of Garza and another man. , the report states. Medrano’s son is said to have asked Garza about the photo before the alleged assault. In response, Garza said she knew the photo had been sent to her husband but claimed it was edited before it was passed on to Medrano and his son.
The affidavit also reportedly notes that after entering the home, first responders were able to locate Garza and Medrano by asking deputies to redial the number that made the initial 911 call. head. They are then said to have heard the phone ringing from behind a locked bedroom door in the house. After entering the locked room, the delegates reported that Garza had “died in bed with lacerations to his body.”
According to the report, Medrano was also in bed, lying next to his wife with “a knife in his hand”. The report said he appeared to have suffered “lacerations on his arms and neck” but was still alive.
The Hidalgo County Clerk’s Office and the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to requests from Law & Crime seeking additional information and documents related to the incident.
