Mounting Angle of Bobby Witt Jr.’s Breakthrough Hit Is Electric (Video)

Bobby Witt Jr. got his first career hit for a game-winning RBI against the Cleveland Guardians. The Royals won the game 3-1.

Opening day couldn’t have gone better for Kansas City Royals fans.

First of all, the return of Zack Greinke was a complete success. The former and current royal threw one-run ball for just under six innings and held the Guardians at bay long enough to eventually get to Shane Bieber and then Cleveland’s bullpen.

Witt Jr.’s RBI double came from Tristan McKenzie in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The 21-year-old consistently ranks in the top 10 on baseball’s top prospect lists. The son of a former MLB pitcher, he is poised to make his mark as one of the best young players in all of baseball.

Opening day: Bobby Witt Jr. leaves his mark

Witt Jr. gave a behind-the-curtain look ahead of opening day, revealing how the royals initially told him he would start at third base.

“All the guys congratulated me,” Witt told reporters, according to ESPN. “I can’t really put into words how it felt. My stomach sank. Tears came to my eyes. I will never forget that.”

He doesn’t have to. If Witt Jr. has his way, he’ll stay with the majors for the rest of his playing days.
