Uiatu “Joan” Taufua, the mother of Brisbane Broncos and NSW State of Origin player Payne Haas, has been charged in the crash.
Loved ones gathered for a memorial service at the Mudgeeraba Showground on Friday as daughter Claudine Snow paid a touching tribute to her mother, who worked full-time as Steffanie’s caregiver.
“They were inseparable and now they will be together forever,” she said.
“I wish I could wake up from this nightmare and you two could come back to me.”
Snow said Susan is a single mother who is motivated to take care of her daughters herself.
“She was my heroine,” Snow said.
“She found her piece of paradise in Bonogin and loved the community very much.
“She would be so relieved to know that this beautiful community has put their arms around us.”
Susan was a champion roller skater in her youth and had her favorite pair of skates placed on her coffin during the memorial service.
Snow described her sister as a gifted runner, a “loving and loyal soul” and party life with cheeky humor.
“I would give anything to have another hug or just to see a smile,” she said.
Steffanie, Susan and their partner Chris Fawcett, 79, died when their silver Mercedes hatch and a black Mercedes station wagon collided on December 30.
The black car was allegedly driven by Taufua.
Police claim the 46-year-old failed to stop for police before turning the wrong side of the road and crashing into the Mercedes head-on.
She is charged with triple manslaughter.
Taufua also faces one charge each of dangerous motor vehicle operation, police evasion and driving without a license.
She is scheduled to stand trial again in March.
