They met in the playground of an elementary school where Stephen’s children attended and where Shannon worked.
Despite Stephen being 74 and already rejected by the NHS for IVF, they are still keen to start a family together.
Shannon says people often mistake Stephen for their father or their children’s grandfather.
But nine years later, their love for each other is stronger than ever.
“I love having a baby”
“I would love to have a baby with Stephen,” she said.
“Unfortunately, in 2014, I had to undergo chemotherapy for breast cancer.
“I am taking my chances and have refused to take the post-treatment drug tamoxifen because it induces premature menopause and then I would not be able to get pregnant.
“We’ve already been rejected by the NHS for IVF because we both already have two children, but I find that so unfair because we want a family together.”
Shannon says she “really” needs the help of IVF treatment.
“I don’t take birth control, so I pray that one day I’ll conceive naturally so we can have a baby together,” she said.
“This is our dream.”
She says she fell in love with Stephen the moment she saw him – and he felt the same way about her.
“His sexy smile, friendly manner, blue eyes and the way he hugged me the first time we met made me fall head over heels,” she said.
“We have a magical relationship and we don’t care about people judging us.
“People always think Stephen is my dad or my kids’ grandpa when we’re all out together, but we just totally ignore it.
“He’s only three years younger than my mother and four years younger than my father.
“They get along great, so it worked out perfectly.”
Shannon says the only challenge that comes with their age gap relationship is that Stephen can keep up with her sexually.
Apart from that, she says that they are soul mates and she would be happy to live alone on an island with just him.
“My kids didn’t mind my relationship with Stephen, they love him like their own father,” she explained.
“His kids love me too. We are like one big happy family.
“I already had a relationship with his children because they went to the elementary school where I worked.
“They grew up around me and we have an amazing dynamic.”
‘My true love’
She says age doesn’t matter — just what was “in the heart.”
“He’s my one true love and my best friend,” she said.
“We spend all day, every day together and we never get bored or fed up.
“If something happened to Stephen, I wouldn’t try to find another relationship because nothing would compare.”
