The Buckland Sales Agency announced this week that Lauren Morgan has joined the team as the blood group’s director. She will handle client relationships, horse assessments, and other blood-breeding services for the consignee.
Morgan, a native of Troy, Mich., most recently worked for Vinery Sales as a sales consultant and blood breeder. Prior to that, she was in charge of blood and customer relationship services for Darby Dan Farm. She graduated from Michigan State University, during which time she completed an internship at Shadwell Ranch in Lexington and fell in love with the Bluegrass and Kentucky purebred industries.
“I gained as much experience as possible in all aspects of the industry after graduating from college. I felt the need to understand the importance of every job in the business, which helped me understand and Appreciate Morgan says, “I fell in love with sales and knew I had found a niche when I started growing my own client base. The personal relationships I’ve formed with my clients and seeing all their hard work pay off in the sales ring is what makes me love this part of the business. My clients are like family and when they succeed, there’s no better feeling.”
Zach Madden, principal of Buckland Sales, who founded the deposit agent in 2015, presented his first sketches of the horses at the livestock stock sale that year. Since then, Buckland’s graduates have included graded stake winners Duke Biddy and Chocolate Martini , as well as Runhappy Travers Stakes (G1) runner-up Cacaro , who is in her first year at Crestwood Farm in 2021.
After graduation, Morgan moved to Lexington and gained experience as a veterinary assistant during the breeding season for Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital, then with cubs during the pre-sale season at WinStar Farms.
“I got to know Zach through a mutual client. The more we got to know each other, the more Zach and I realized that we were very similar in our approach and the opportunity to work together was organic,” Morgan said. “I am delighted to be a part of the Buckland team because it is important to me that the people we sell horses to receive the best service. Zach’s work ethic, knowledge and experience are all in are huge assets and I am grateful that I have received to be a part of developing and representing Buckland Sales.”

Morgan’s interest in horse racing developed at an early age as she and her father would watch races together on television or live when they could. His love for the sport, and the knowledge he shared as they disabled and strategized together, inspired Morgan to pursue a career in the industry.
“My dad is my best friend and racing is something we’ve always enjoyed together,” Morgan said. “I lost him in 2017 to cancer, so it means a lot to me that I will always have memories with him that helped get me started with Thoroughbreds.”
Outside of work, Morgan has a talent for interior design and enjoys consulting on home decor projects, as well as driving her “Theo” off-track. Uncle Mo ). She and her husband, Justin, live in Lexington with their bull, Louie.
