Moderna Looking for Blue Light to Vaccinate Toddlers and Young Children – CBS Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ) – Moderna hopes to get the “green light” from the Food and Drug Administration in the coming weeks to provide the youngest group of people with a low-dose COVID-19 vaccine.
The drug company plans to require a two-dose injection, 25 micrograms each, for children who are at least six months old and children under six years of age.

For perspective, Moderna explained that 25% of the first two doses adults will receive, and added that the vaccine provides the same level of protection against COVID-19 in young children as it does in adults.
Dr Scott Krugman, deputy chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, said: “This is the first good news for families with children under the age of 5 during this pandemic.

According to Moderna, the study was conducted during the Omicron surge in the US. Results showed that the effectiveness of the vaccine in children aged six months to two years was 43.7%, while the effectiveness of the vaccine in children aged two to less than six years was 37.5%.
“If the data holds and the CDC advisory committee looks at it and makes recommendations, then we can start vaccinating young children within the next month or hopefully longer,” Krugman said.
The drug company says most cases are mild.
