MLB The Show 22 Road to the Show includes new cutscenes and additional ball player slots

Just eight days before MLB The Show 22 Early Access begins, San Diego Studios (SDS) is almost done revealing the new features. Today SDS premiered its penultimate feature for MLB The Show 22, focusing on Road to the Show and Ballplayer. Both will return for The Show 22, of course, but will look a little different.
Some of the new additions to the Road to the Show (RTTS) game mode include new cutscenes. In MLB The Show 21, the current-gen version contained scenes featuring former MiLB play-by-play man and current San Diego Studios show designer Ben Gellman, along with MLB Network personalities, with various people in the game talk and guide your character along the journey in a podcast setting. New scenes featuring both returning and new commentators, such as former Twins catcher and MLB The Show 10 and 11 cover athlete Joe Mauer, will be part of the Road to the Show mode this year.
Additionally, RTTS now gives users the ability to manage up to 10 different Ballplayer slots. This is a departure from MLB The Show 21 as players could only use one ball player – the virtual avatar used in Road to the Show – throughout the game mode and any save files attached to a user’s profile. Ballplayer’s limitations have been reviled by some members of the community, but this issue seems to have been resolved.
Another point of contention from last year was Diamond Dynasty’s integration into Road to the Show for ballplayers. In MLB The Show 21, users had to grind in Diamond Dynasty to work on Ballplayer missions and earn perks that could be unlocked through innings programs. While this was somewhat convenient for Diamond Dynasty-only players, it also discouraged Road to the Show-only players.
Archetype programs have returned for MLB The Show 22. However, Ballplayer missions are now strictly limited to Road to the Show. Reward rates and amounts have also been increased, making it easier to level up the ball player.
The return for MLB The Show 22 is the ability to use a ball player in Diamond Dynasty, the ability to build a two-way player, and the perk system. Users can also seamlessly change pitches from the Ballplayer menu instead of going through practice. Pitches, including the infamous Knuckleball, can be fitted and removed with relative ease for a pitcher ball player. However, ball players who own a knuckleball cannot use the field in Diamond Dynasty online.
San Diego Studios will be doing another MLB The Show 22 Feature Premiere Show. Coming March 31st, it includes Diamond Dynasty, live content and plans for eSports in 2022. MLB The Show 22 will launch worldwide on April 5th, with early access beginning April 1st.
