Minnesota Vikings safely activate Harrison Smith from COVID-19 list, appoint CB Patrick Peterson back from IR

EAGAN, Minn. – Minnesota Vikings‘secondary can return to full strength against Green Bay Packers in Week 11.

The team announced on Wednesday that the safety Harrison Smith has been activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list and will return to action. Defender Patrick Peterson, who injured his hamstring at Carolina in Week 6 and was subsequently placed on the injured reserve, has been reassigned and will also train on Wednesday.

Rookies Camryn Bynum stepped up in place of Smith during the match with Raven and Chargers and recorded an interception and siege. While Smith is expected to return to the starting lineup for Sunday’s game against the Packers, Bynum is likely to still play a regular role in secondary.

“We’ll just see how it plays out,” coach Mike Zimmer said. “I think he’s done a good job, but Harrison is a good player, so it’s great that someone can come in and spell him out.”

Peterson started the first six games of last season when he injured his hamstring in the fourth round of Minnesota’s extra-time win over the Panthers. He has 13 tackles and two assists during the season.
