Miners, Pouncy lift Grizzlies to weekend series victory over Oilers

TULSA, OK – Trent Miner saved 42 of 43 shots and Kyle Pouncy scored the game-winning goal with a 6:14 scoreline to lead the Utah Grizzlies to a 3-1 win over the Tulsa Oilers on Sunday. Sunday afternoon at the BOK Center.

The Oilers led 1-0 at halftime when Jack Doremus scored his 10th goal of the season at 13:53 in the contest. The Oilers beat Utah 14 to 2 in the first stage and 43 to 24 in the game.

Zac Robbins scored 18:47 in the second half to close the game. Robbins now has a goal in back-to-back games when he gets the game winner with 2:55 left in regulation on December 9 in Tulsa. Quinn Ryan and Tyler Penner each provided their fifth assist of the season as the score drew 1-1 after 40 minutes of play.

Connor McDonald’s shot from the left circle went past the glove of Tulsa goalkeeper Ryan Ruck and Pouncy scored after a rebound from the right to give Utah a 13:46 lead in the third inning. Pouncy and Robbins both scored their first professional goals on December 9 in Tulsa and both scored again on Sunday. Robbins was the winner of the game on Thursday night and Pouncy’s 3rd goal became the winner of the game. Brandon Cutler added another goal into an empty net with 1:06 remaining. Cutler currently leads Utah with 22 points during the season. Cutler is back after missing the first two games in Tulsa. He currently has 1 point in 12 of the last 13 games he played.

The Grizzlies have won two of their three games in the series at Tulsa. Utah is 3-1-1 against Tulsa this season. Both teams drew 0-3 in strength play. Trent Miner is dominating the grid for Utah. He is currently leading the club with 6 wins in the season.

Utah returns to Maverik Center for a 4-match, 5-day series against the Wichita Thunder on December 15, 17-19.
