The Steelers had something similar when they drafted Mason Rudolph in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft with Ben Roethlisberger on the pick. But Roethlisberger advised Rudolph.
The Steelers apparently used the 20th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft to determine who they think could replace Roethlisberger in Kenny Pickett, who played college football for the Pittsburgh Panthers. The decision was made to add him to the roster with Rudolph and sign former Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills quarterback Mitchell Trubisky to a two-year contract.
After the pickett selection, Tomlin said the rookie has a shot at becoming the team’s week one starter. Pickett was considered the most pro-ready of quarterback prospects in this year’s draft class.
Opinions on Tannehill’s comments about mentoring Willis have been widespread ever since. Now you know where Tomlin stands on this subject.
