Mike Tomlin invites local kids to training camp after he finishes the fight

Mike Tomlin showed his softer side by inviting local kids to Steelers training camp and conducting drills after breaking up a fight.

Mike Tomlin can be considered one of the toughest coaches in the NFL, and for the most part his Pittsburgh Steelers echo the same message.

However, like everyone, he has a softer side, and it showed in a great story during Steelers’ training camp. While driving, Tomlin saw some children fighting in the street. He ended the fight by essentially shocking the kids.

After spending time with them, Tomlin invited all the kids over to practice, where they received tough love coaching from Tomlin while meeting running back Najee Harris. Instead of fighting, the kids cheered each other on, persisted in drills, and displayed resilience that are hallmarks of Tomlin’s tenure.

Steelers: Mike Tomlin is coaching more than just his team after inviting kids to practice

On match day, Mike Tomlin is all in business, despite all the outside sounds one could say about him. His teams focus on the task at hand and he sees who isn’t giving everything and who is. At the same time, he is not afraid to help as in his coaching career.

Few forget the impact he had on the 2002 Tampa Bay Buccaneers and how outstanding a defensive coordinator Tomlin was for the Vikings before taking the job with the Steelers, leading them to two Super Bowls and winning one, becoming the youngest to do so had ever achieved such an achievement.

Mike Tomlin is in this league to win games and improve as a leader while also bringing glory to the Pittsburgh Steelers. At the same time, he’s human too, and he showed his softer side by giving kids the ability to channel frustration among themselves into an engaging and fun activity—traits that make a successful coach and a better person in life.
