Miguel Cabrera and Albert Pujols are all-stars: fans rejoice

Miguel Cabrera and Albert Pujols were selected for the 2022 MLB All-Star Game.

Miguel Cabrera and Albert Pujolstwo of the best ever made it into this year’s All-Star Game, according to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal the athlete.

This news comes as little surprise after Commissioner Rob Manfred announced that there is a new clause in the CBA allowing two legends owned by Manfred himself to be elected to the ASG as “legacy picks”.

There are a total of three players in MLB history who have recorded 3,000 hits, 500 home runs and 600 doubles in their career. Miggy and Albert represent two of them, with the third being arguably the greatest baseball player of all time, Hank Aaron (H/T to Bob Nightengale for the fun fact).

Since this year Pujols’ most recently in the premier leaguehe was a no-brainer to make the NL squad representing the Cardinals.

Cabrera, Major League Baseball’s youngest Triple Crown winner, scored his 3,000th hit in April and is one of the most fearsome right-handers of this generation. He was another no-brainer to make the AL squad with the Legacy selection.

Miggy and Pujols made the All-Star Game and the fans love it

Albert Pujols, 42, will make his eleventh MLB All-Star Game appearance in the final season of his incredible 22-year career. He is the active leader in games played, at-bats, runs, hits, doubles, home runs, RBI, walks and total bases.

“The Machine” saw a dip in his performance when he joined the Los Angeles Angels in 2012 and spent half a season with the Dodgers last year, but he’s now back home where he’s with the Cardinals. Getting the ASG nod is the perfect farewell to one of the best to ever make it.

In 45 games with the Cardinals that year, Pujols was used as a bench hitter and occasional DH against left-handed pitching. He has four homers and 18 RBI and an OPS+ of just 80.

Miguel Cabrera, 39, has no retirement plans set in stone just yet, but he is also nearing the end of his playing career. Miggy is in the midst of his 20th big league season and is delivering numbers that might have landed him (for the 12th time of his career) as the Tigers’ lone representative in the ASG.

In 70 games of the season, Cabrera suffers minor blackouts (just three homers in 270+ plate appearances) but has 31 RBI and 108 OPS+, coupled with a .308 batting average, his highest since 2016. Fighting the Tiger, a strong performance by Miggy in late career is very welcome.
