Michigan State Nearly Reaches Top 20 Points, Holds Place – CBS Baltimore

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) – Freshman Max Christie scored 16, Gabe Brown added 13 and 7th seed Michigan State nearly blew 20 points in the second half before holding 10th seed Maryland 76-72 on the night. Thursday in the second round of the Big. Ten Conference Tournament.
Michigan State took a 20-point lead with 13:04 remaining after opening the second half 12-3. But the Spartans really struggled to take care of the ball late in the face of Maryland’s all-court pressure.

Michigan State flipped it more than 11 times in the second half – seven times in the 2:26 final.
After Michigan State’s fourth consecutive ownership with one revenue, Fatts Russell sinks 3-pointers to get Maryland in the 68-65 round.
MSU’s Tyson Walker sank two free throws but after another turn, Russell completed a three-pointer to take a 12-2 lead and make it 70-68. Walker responded with a jump and Christie added two free throws with 31.1 seconds left.
Hart missed 3 drops to his foot and he returned it to a 74-70 streak and Michigan State failed to hit a pass inside the penalty box before Eric Ayala hit a shot under the basket for 74- 72.

An official review had Maryland return the ball after another Michigan State rotation, but Russell fouled with a 3-pointer back and Christie was fouled and made two more free throws to lead 4 point with 6.6 left.
Michigan State (November 21) advances to take on Big Ten player of the year Johnny Davis with second-seeded and 12th-place Wisconsin in the quarterfinals on Friday. The Spartans split the regular-season series with the Badgers, winning 86-74 at Wisconsin before falling 70-62 at home.
Maryland (15-17) was led by Russell with 20 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Ayala finished with 17 points, Donta Scott added 15 and Hart 11.
