Wolverines fans probably didn’t expect quarterback competition to continue in the season. Well that’s exactly what you get.

McNamara was the main starter for Michigan during their run to the Orange Bowl last season. He threw for 2,576 yards, 15 touchdowns and six interceptions while completing 64.2 percent of his passes.

As McNamara enters his senior season, there’s McCarthy, who was among the top recruits in the 2021 class. After all, he was a five-star recruit. As it turns out, he won’t get the starting job just yet. But that can change with a strong performance against Hawaii.

Still, McCarthy received no starts, but he completed 34 of 59 of his pass attempts for 516 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions in 11 games. McCarthy ran the ball 27 times in his freshman year for 124 yards and two touchdowns.

Wolverines fans will be watching the team’s first two games closely and deciding who they think should be the starter moving forward. The final decision, of course, rests with Harbaugh.
