A New York suburban college student was killed over the weekend in a bizarre shooting that appeared to show no motive or anything to do with the suspect with the woman he gave him. was murdered.
Michael Snow31 years old, charged with second degree murder following the death of a 21-year-old cellist, orchestra member, and SUNY Potsdam Crane School of Music Premium Elizabeth Howell.
The young woman was shot dead just before 6 p.m. in the village of the same name, but the motive for the murder is unknown.
“She’s an aspiring educator with a bright future ahead of her.” SUNY President Potsdam Dr. Phil Neisser wrote in a letter to students and colleagues posted on the school website. “Together, we – as a united campus community – honor her life and mourn her loss.”
That announcement continued:
My deepest condolences to all of you who have known Beth. We are thinking about her, her family, her friends, her classmates and her loved ones in their grief. To lose such a promising student, and under these circumstances, is not just sad; it’s shocking. So take care of yourself. Take the time you need and take the steps you need to take care of yourself. Also, if you can, do what you can to always be there for others.
Immediately after the shooting, New York State Police urged community members in the area about 200 miles north of Albany, NY to stay behind locked doors and only go in groups if they must leave. Since the call for alarm, however, authorities have said the shooting was an isolated incident, but details are scarce.
According to Carthage, CBS affiliate WWNY is based in NYHowell was found unconscious with multiple gunshots by the side of College Park Road on Friday, February 18, 2022. She was taken to Canton-Potsdam Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
On Saturday afternoon, Snow was arrested and charged. The previous stay order was lifted after the arrest was made.
The NYSP has released details of the vehicle the defendant is believed to have driven on the day of questioning. According to law enforcement, who asked the public for help with information about the vehicle, Snow was in a gray Honda Civic that left Potsdam before passing through the towns of Hopkinton, Malone, Westville, Hogansburg and Massena.
Law enforcement still wants details of the defendant’s activities and exact whereabouts during the approximately three-and-a-half hours between 5:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on the Friday night before Snow. finally made his way back to his hometown Massena –Exactly with some damage done to his driver’s side door.
According to NBC affiliate WSTM based in Syracuse, citing the school, the respondent has no affiliation with the university. According to police, he is also not known to have any relationship with Howell.
Classes were canceled on Monday due to the tragedy.

Snow was sorted Saturday and transferred to the St. Lawrence, where he is being held without bail.
