Bisping and GSP have a short reunion cage side

Georges St. Pierre and Michael Bisping had one of the shortest but most intense rivalries in the history of the sport. In the short time that the two have battled for dominance of an unstable middleweight division, the two fighters put on incredible performances both in and out of the cage.

When Michael Bisping made his first defense of his middleweight title against bitter opponent Dan Henderson, it came as a surprise to many that his next opponent would be a returning GSP. Notably, despite a nearly half-decade hiatus, GSP was to be given an immediate title shot on his return, not even in his own weight class.

Leading up to the fight, the UFC was heavily promoted to market the triumphant return of their once-biggest star. One of the most notorious zingers in MMA history ensued when GSP asked Michael Bisping, who was late for their press conference in Vegas, “Are you drunk,” prompting Bisping to repeat the question in a heavy sarcastic tone and GSP to ask what else is there to do in Las Vegas.

The fight took place at the legendary Madison Square Garden and while it was short, it was memorable as GSP was able to return to his full form against a champion in a different weight class. By only submitting Bisping via an RNC in the second round, St. Pierre managed to mark his name as one of the few doubles champions in the promotion’s history and go down in history as the undisputed GOAT.

St. Pierre would withdraw shortly thereafter, while Bisping would fight back in the short term Kelvin Gastelum in Shanghai China, just 17 days after his loss to GSP. He was KO’d by Gastelum in the first round, after which the Brit put down his gloves and retired from the sport.

The two have traveled miles since that tumultuous time in 2017. Both Bisping and St Pierre started their respective careers as analysts, although the Brit has been more successful in this field. However, at UFC Vegas 58, Bisping took time off from his official broadcasting duties to say hello to his former foe-turned-boyfriend.

Bisping went to the opposite side of the octagon and greeted St. Pierre, who was also sitting on the cage side, saying: “How are you brother, nice to see you man” Include GSP in the process. “I saw that you were busy and I didn’t want to come and disturb you.” said GSP as he smiled at Bisping while shaking his hand.

Bisping would then say: “It was a good time back in Manchester” before saying goodbye to go back to the booth. However, GSP would pull Bisping in and whisper something to him, prompting a cheerful Bisping to reply. “I’m down, I’m down, anytime brother” with arms spread wide.

It’s always good to see legends of the sport unanimously agree after ten years of trying to smash each other’s faces.
