MGM output deal with Stan Australian Streamer renewed

Australian streaming service Stan renewed its exclusive content partnership with Hollywood studio MGM. The deal covers the movies and movie titles.

The first MGM series mentioned in the deal include: “Billy the Kid,” an epic romantic adventure series from MGM US’s Epix cable network; “The Box,” a supernatural psychological thriller starring Anna Friel; and the French-Riviera-set series “The Reunion,” based on the best-selling novel by Guillaume Musso and starring Ioan Gruffudd.

Blockbuster films available on Stan in 2023 include: “House of Gucci” by Ridley Scott; Paul Thomas Anderson’s coming-of-age comedy “Licorice Pizza”; biographical musical “Respect”; and the upcoming animation “The Addams Family 2”

As part of a newly expanded partnership, the James Bond series is now available to stream on Stan. The most recent Bond film, “There’s no time to die“Will be available on the platform in 2023.

Stan recently signed new content deals with NBCUniversal, Lionsgate, and WarnerMedia. It boasts further content partnerships including those with Starz, Showtime, Paramount, CBSViacom, Sony, Warner Bros, Disney, all3media and British Broadcasting Corporation.

The Australia’s streaming market is currently dominated by Netflix, in terms of both subscriptions and minutes watched, according to consulting firm Media Partners Asia. The company said that Disney Plus and Amazon Prime Video has the next highest number of subscriptions with Nine-owned Stan in fourth place. However, in terms of minutes watched, Stan ranks second only to Netflix.

The market is becoming increasingly crowded with Apple TV Plus and Amazon Prime Video both operating in the country. ViacomCBS, which owns Australia’s Ten Linear Channel, launched Paramount Plus streaming service last August.

Market-leading pay-TV platform Foxtel has sought to defend its position by launching streaming services Foxtel Now and Binge. Stan has also branched out with a special sports streaming unit.

Stan also produced and co-produced. Its originals include Isla Fisher- and Josh Gad starring as “Wolf Like Me” (with Peacock in the US); Jamie Dornan stars in “The Tourist” (with HBO Max, BBC, and Germany’s ZDF); The movie “Gold” starred Zac Efron; The film was first announced at Cannes “Nitram”; and “Ru Paul’s Drag Race Down Under.” MGM output deal with Stan Australian Streamer renewed
