Mets-Nationals Brawl: Who Gets Banned?

The New York Mets and Washington Nationals got caught in a brawl clearance on Friday after Steve Cishek punched Francisco Lindor in the helmet.

Sparks are already flying in the 2022 MLB season, especially between the Mets and the Nationals.

On opening day, three Mets batters were hit by Nats pitchers, increasing tensions between the two teams. Those tensions increased on Friday when Francisco Lindor hit a pitch in the face.

Steve Cishek put the ball up and in, sending Lindor into the dirt and prompting NY manager Buck Showalter to storm out of the dugout in anger. From then on, they all joined them in a scuffle.

Will there be consequences for the eviction of the banks?

No suspensions were announced for the brawl. Cishek was the only player who was kicked out of the game.

Players are occasionally suspended for bank cleanup brawls. Tim Anderson was suspended for two games earlier this season for contacting a referee in September of last season.

With nothing more than back and forth with a little shoving and shoving, it’s hard to imagine MLB taking action against this type of “brawl” at this stage of the season. With nothing emerging that the cameras missed, both teams should be able to get away from it.

Of course, MLB can keep an eye out as the series progresses. The Mets and Nats are scheduled to play two more games this weekend. If pitchers are perceived as target balls, things could easily escalate again. If so, the league may want to step in to put a stop to it.

Friday night’s game ran into a rain delay in the ninth inning, with New York leading 6-3.
