Melissa Doyle Announces Important Family News: ‘Crying Like a Baby’

Former Channel 7 Sunrise star Melissa Doyle has celebrated a big win for her son Nick Dunlop.

The 21-year-old, who is part of the Australian rowing team, won gold at an international regatta in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

The proud mum was there to cheer on her son and his crew and shared a photo of him in uniform clutching his gold medal on her Instagram.

“I really tried not to be an embarrassing mother, but I couldn’t. cry like a baby gold!” she wrote.

“World Champion!! Gold in a row!”

Dunlop, a helmsman at Washington University in the US, is the member who steers the boat and is responsible for coordinating the crew’s power and rhythm.

Alongside his university commitments, Dunlop represents Australia internationally, with the proud mother Doyle spending a week in Bulgaria with her son.

β€œWhat a week in Plovdiv! An absolutely beautiful city – rich history and great food,” she added in another Instagram post.

β€œA gold medal definitely makes it even better! #World Champion.”

Doyle’s friends and followers took to the comments to congratulate the family on the exciting win.

“So awesome, Mel. Congratulations, Nick, for all your hard work,” said Sunrise co-host Natalie Barr.

“Great!!!!! Congratulations Nick πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘,” wrote Gold Logie nominee Sonia Kruger.

“A great πŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™ŒπŸ™Œ congratulations to Nick and all the crew,” said Morning Show host Kylie Gillies.

Dancing With the Stars judge Todd McKenney said: “Amazing!!! Congratulations to Nick and the entire crew!! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘”.

Doyle and husband John Dunlop have another child, a daughter Natalia, 20, who recently made her TV debut alongside Mel.

In June 2023, the mother-daughter duo appeared on The Morning Show and discussed their trip to Kenya as part of Doyle’s longtime Goodwill Ambassador role for World Vision.

Although she has been an ambassador for almost two decades and has visited Kenya before, it was Talia’s first trip.

In the days following her performance, Doyle shared more behind-the-scenes photos of her post as she gushed over the first time she was on TV with her daughter.

“So proud of my girl. Her first live TV interview and I’m glad we both care so much about it,” she said of World Vision.
