And many have observed that Meghan looked like she “needed that hug”.
The Duchess greeted the crowd outside Windsor Castle alongside husband Prince Harry and the Prince and Princess of Wales, William and Kate.
In the video shared on TikTok, Meghan can be seen hesitantly walking towards the crowd when a girl, whose name was Amelka, said to her: “Oh my god, hi”.
Meghan asked the girl’s name, noting that it was “so beautiful”.
Then she thanked the teenager for coming.
“It means so much to the family, we appreciate it,” she said, before adding, “How long have you waited?”
After the 14-year-old replied that it was two hours, Meghan replied: “Oh god ok hopefully you can come home soon and we appreciate you being here.”
Amelka then asked, “May I hug you?”
Meghan enthusiastically replied: “Of course”.
In a sweet moment, the two shared a long hug as the crowd around them “wowed” before Meghan looked at her and offered the teenager a sincere thank you.
The video’s caption read: “Harry and Meghan were both absolutely adorable!
“Here’s the hug everyone’s talking about. It was so beautiful to witness and she is such a beautiful woman inside and out.”
“We love you, Meghan.”
The video, which has been viewed more than 17 million times, drew praise in the comments, with many noting how much they think Meghan needed the hug.
“Meghan looks really nervous and shy…that hug means a lot I think,” said one.
“I think Meghan really needed that hug and kindness,” said another.
A third wrote: “You can really see how much Meghan needed that hug. It must be so hard for her to relive that trauma.”

“Wanted to show she’s welcome”
As Amelka Zak hugged the Duchess, she later shared, “We were just waiting for her to come and she came over and asked my name and how my day was and how long I’ve been waiting.”
“I asked her if I could hug her and she hugged me back. It was just an amazing moment,” she told CNN.
“I feel like she’s going through a lot because of the death of the Queen but also because of everything she’s been through with the royal family.
“I just wanted to show her that she’s welcome I guess. I just wanted to hug her after everything that happened.”
While Meghan has not made an official statement about the Queen’s death, she did share that she is pausing her podcast during the period of mourning.
She addressed the official mourning period on podcast site Archetypes, hosted by streaming platform Spotify.
Archetypes paused
The Duchess of Sussex’s podcast features interviews with successful women in hopes of breaking down the labels and stereotypes that hold women back.
“New episodes of Archetypes are being paused during the official period of mourning for Her Majesty The Queen Elizabeth II,” the streaming platform said in a statement.
The UK entered a 10-day period of mourning for the late monarch following news of the Queen’s death on Thursday evening (Friday morning AEST).
It is scheduled to last until the Queen’s funeral on September 19, with a week of ceremonial events planned beforehand.
Markle has previously interviewed Mariah Carey, Serena Williams and Mindy Kaling on her podcast series.
The talks included subtle and not-so-subtle digs at the British monarchy, including comments about ambition and that the word only started to have “negative connotations” for her when she “started dating Prince Harry.”
