Meghan Markle was five hours late for the event, reveals Australian comedian Joel Creasey

Australian comedian Joel Creasey is waiting for no royal — not even Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex.
Or at least he tried not to wait but was forced back into a venue after the Duchess was five hours late for an event.

When Creasey tried to say goodbye to a youth leader morning tea during Harry and Meghan’s visit to Australia in 2018, security stopped him and threatened him with arrest.
Creasey revealed the anecdote on NOVA’s Fitzy & Wippa radio show, noting that Meghan was still a working member of the royal family at the time.
“I went to a morning tea to meet her for youth leaders under 30,” he recalled.
“And I just snuck in.
I think the invitation was for Josh Thomas and I accepted.
“Went in and she was five hours late.”
Tired from waiting, Creasey tried to walk.
“‘She made a Madonna,’ I said,” Creasey recalled.
“‘Can I go? I don’t care about her that much.’
“And security said, ‘No, we’re going to arrest you.’
“It turns out that leaving the royal family is easier than it being one of their events.
“So we didn’t really launch it.”
Creasey also admitted that “100 Amazon Lawyers” had to watch the anecdote before he could include it in his Amazon Prime special Queen of the Outback.
It’s not the first time the comedian has opened up about his awkward interaction with Meghan during her visit to Australia.
Speaking in 2019, he said he was “in a feud” with the former Suits actress.
“I met her and we didn’t get along at all,” he told The Project.
“I was introduced to her – she came over and was planted in front of me.
“The governor of Victoria’s husband said to Meghan, ‘Oh Meghan, Joel hosted your wedding.’
“I think he was going to say, ‘Joel hosted your wedding on TV,’ but before he could say that, Meghan cut him off and said, ‘Ugh, I don’t remember you being there’.”
In the book The Palace Papers, royal author Tina Brown claimed Meghan “hated every second” of her visit to Australia.
Meghan reportedly found the visit “pointless” and couldn’t understand why the crowds had come to see her and Prince Harry at the Sydney Opera House.
“She didn’t understand why things were set up that way,” Brown wrote in the book.
“Rather than get excited when thousands of people showed up at the opera house, it was more like, ‘What’s the purpose? I do not understand that’.”
Prince Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior royals in 2020 and relocated from the UK to California, where they live with their two children, Archie and Lilibet.
