MechWarrior Online is renamed MWO: Legends, packing a new mech tier and mini battle pass into cash shop bundles

Piranha Games heralds “a new dawn” for its massive robot-fighting MMO MechWarrior Onlineas it renamed the game MWO: Solaris 7 To MWO: Legends instead complete with many new content updates in the next patch and into 2023. Also, the game has a snazzy new logo.
“While Solaris lives on in the event queue, it doesn’t represent the game in general, the changes we’ve made over the past few years, or the direction MWO is on the road this year and next,” the studio explains. The new name is more than just a visual change, as the studio is also promising new maps, new weapon types and a new legendary tier of mech variants on offer, as well as ongoing improvements to maps, matchmaking and existing chassis.
The first of these rebranded updates arrives with the game’s March 21st patch, introducing the first two legendary mechs in the form of the Juggernaught [sic] Fafnir and the Moonwalker Mad Cat Mk II. Legendary Mechs have distinct traits such as a custom paint job, an “Outlier” quirk, and a 30% C-Bill boost. However, it should be noted that these chassis are stuffed into cash shop packs that contain the mech variant and an endless “mini battle pass” that includes GSP, C-Bills, MC, premium time, and cosmetics for play of purchased walking grants tanks.
Luckily, the new patch isn’t just about cash shop bundles, as it will also bring a new Free Worlds Coliseum map, a few tweaks to the Jenner, and a long list of tweaks to various existing mech quirks. Still, if you want to become legendary, you’ll have to pay for it.
