Mazda cuts the CX-3 series and increases prices

Mazda drastically downsized its CX-3 lineup, dropping the available manual transmission and all-wheel drive and reshuffling the rest of the lineup.

Instead of six equipment variants and a total of 13 variants, there are now only six different ones CX-3 Variants. All have front-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission.

Mazda has also aligned the CX-3 lineup with other models the company sells Mazda 2.

All models now have wireless Apple CarPlay as well as wired Android Auto; Power folding door mirrors and remote window controls are now also standard on all CX-3s.

With no longer a price-leading manual version, the CX-3’s base price jumps $3,290 to $26,800 before street costs for the new Sport.

As a replacement for the Neo Sport, it’s $1,290 more expensive than the previous trim when equipped with an automatic transmission.

To justify the increase, however, Mazda has added ample equipment: the Sport has 16-inch alloy wheels (instead of 16-inch steel wheels), blind-spot monitoring and a rear cross-traffic alert.

Replacing the Maxx Sport, the new Pure trim features LED headlights and taillights with automatic high beams, as well as Lane Departure Warning, driver attention monitoring and a head-up display.

Replacing the Maxx Sport LE, the Evolve swaps 16-inch alloy wheels for 18-inch machined-surface alloy wheels and also features front parking sensors. The cabin is upholstered with white leatherette and tan suede.

Inside, it’s upholstered in black leather and grand luxe suede with blue accents. Also standard are heated front seats and a 10-way power driver’s seat with memory. Adaptive cruise control with Stop/Go is now also standard.

The Akari is the only nameplate carried over to the updated model, but it hasn’t gone untouched.

Despite its age – the CX-3 first appeared in 2015 – Mazda’s entry-level crossover is still a big seller.

The company has sold 5325 examples by the end of April, accounting for almost a third of the entire light SUV segment in VFACTS Kia Stonic (2159 sales) by far in second place. Sales increased by 53 percent compared to the same period last year.
