Max Muncy recruits Freddie Freeman. Braves fans should be very scared

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Max Muncy recruits Freddie Freeman outside of Atlanta. Braves fans should be nervous.

It’s unclear when the 2022 MLB season will begin as the lockout is ongoing with no new collective bargaining agreement. But whenever both MLB and the MLB Player’s Association agree on a new CBA, free agency will begin at a tremendous pace. One of the big names remaining in the open market is Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman.

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Max Muncy made an appearance Dodger Talk on AM 570 Sports on Friday night and said he thinks it would be “great” if the Dodgers could sign Freeman in the offseason. Not only that, Muncy said he would be willing to move to second base so Freeman would take first.

“Maybe it’s not that much [playing] first base, but that’s okay,” Muncy said, h/t True Blue LA. “I enjoy playing second base more. When we get the DH, that will be a rotation position. We will not have a one-set DH. This means that we will rotate around the field. It’s really fun there. I look forward to it.”

It seems absurd that the Braves would even consider letting Freeman go to sign with another team. However, at the age of 32, Freeman is looking for a six-year contract worth $180 million. Meanwhile, the Braves He reportedly offered the first baseman a five-year, $135 million contract, according to ESPN’s Buster Olney. As a result, Olney said there is a belief that Freeman will not re-sign with the Braves.

That officially opens the door for a team like the Dodgers to capitalize on the decision of an NL rival and push Freeman to continue strengthening his roster. As Muncy says, leaving first base for Freeman won’t be a problem for him.
