Matthew Plote (remaining in Ogle County Jail mugshot) is accused of murdering his pregnant girlfriend Melissa Lamesch (right from the family).

One Illinois According to prosecutors, the man is accused of murdering his pregnant girlfriend and then burning her body home to cover up the crime.

Matthew Plot34, face fees including first degree murder, intentionally killing an unborn child and concealing a homicide death, Attorney for the State of Ogle Mike Rock announced at a press conference on Wednesday.

Those allegations stem from the death of Plote’s girlfriend in 2020, Melissa Lamesch. The 27-year-old woman died just two days before giving birth in a condition that authorities initially thought was suffocation caused by a house fire.

However, a 14-month investigation into the incident suggested otherwise, and a grand jury incited Plote on 10 counts, including the murder of Lamesch’s unborn child:

• First degree murder (3 counts)
• First Degree Murder – Plan ahead
• Intentionally killing the fetus (3 crimes)
• Burning residential areas
• Domestic batteries are heavier
• Concealing a murder death

Plot, that Facebook page identified him as a “firefighter/EMT” at the Malta Fire Service (“Completely made up of volunteer members“), was arrested early Wednesday morning without incident, according to prosecutors. Plote’s page also states that he went to medical school at Kishwaukee College. A person from Malta with the same name as the defendant in 2010 was a member of the ambulance team involved in a non-fatal accident. Plot was 22 years old then.

Defendant is still being held at Ogle County Jail on a $10,000,000 bond.

Lamesch also an EMTand she and Plote “are in a dating relationship,” State Attorney Rock said.

When asked if Plote is the father of baby Lamesch, Rock said: “I really don’t want to comment on that right now.”

According to prosecutors, Lamesch was on maternity leave and preparing for the birth of her first child when firefighters found her unconscious on the kitchen floor in Mount Morris.

It was too late to save her or her unborn son by the time emergency responders arrived on the scene.

Prosecutors would not comment on a potential motive at this time. An attorney for Plote did not return a request for comment.

Mr Rock said: “All of the charges brought were non-challenging except for a heavier domestic battery explosion and a cover-up of a murder. “The concealment of murder, any conviction on that particular charge, would have to be consecutive to the charge of murder.”

He went on to say that murder charges carry sentences of 20 to 60 years, adding: “It is truth in sentencingmeans you will serve 100% of any sentence imposed. “

If found guilty of premeditated first-degree murder, that would result in a mandatory sentence of life in prison.

This news provides some much-needed justice for members of the Lamesch family, who are still in shock.

“I got a phone call while I was at work from my dad,” the victim’s brother Karl Lamesch recalls in an interview with the Chicago NBC affiliate WMAQ. “He woke me up. He said, ‘The house is on fire. Let me know today you heard from Melissa. ‘ And I haven’t heard from her. We were all just trying to call her crazy.”

He also revealed how happy his sister was right before this horrible incident happened.

“I spent the day with her the day before,” he told WMAQ. “She is fine, very happy. She was supposed to give birth two days later. We were like getting everything ready at the last minute, talking about what she needed for her bag,” he said. “We hung the ultrasound pictures above the baby’s crib.”

“She had one of those smiles you can never forget,” he later said of his sister.
