ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) – Maryland’s highest court has extended the state’s nomination deadline for filing by one month amid legal challenge to the new political boundaries adopted by the General Assembly.
The Court of Appeals announced Friday that the new deadline will be March 22 at 9 p.m. to allow enough time for a judicial review. The previous deadline was February 22.
Maryland lawmakers last month approved a new map defining the boundaries for all 188 seats in the legislature.
The map is being challenged over allegations of fraud. That’s when counties are lured to support a ruling political party by wrapping the opposition party’s voters into a few districts or dividing them into multiple districts to dilute their influence.
