BALTIMORE (WJZ) – Marylanders will begin to see significant changes to mask policies statewide this week.

Starting Tuesday, the state and some counties will no longer require masks in government buildings.

Many mask duties for businesses have expired.

As of February 22, 2022, the state of Maryland, Anne Arundel County, Howard County, and Montgomery County will no longer require the wearing of masks in government buildings.

In Howard County, where officials say COVID-19 cases have fallen about 90% from peak levels, County Executive Calvin Ball said it may now be safe to lift mask-wearing duties. in the home.

“I will probably wear my mask here and there, but I want to make sure that people have a choice and I still encourage people when they want to, they should wear their masks,” Ball said.

Baltimore County will lift its indoor mask requirement for government buildings on February 28, 2022.

Harford and Carroll Counties dropped the mission.

Some Marylanders are optimistic but cautious.

“I think that’s probably wise,” said Ken Estes of Howard County. “I think it’s pretty much over but I’ll probably continue just for my own sake.”

The city of Baltimore is the exception. The city will continue to require masks until the CDC has communicated low to moderate acceptable levels. As of Monday, Baltimore’s transmission rate remained “significant,” according to the CDC.

This week, parents who don’t want their kids to wear masks in school can get an update from the Maryland State Board of Education, meeting Tuesday. The board has announced it will make a decision on face masks in schools based on figures that health officials consider acceptable regarding the removal of mask regulations in schools.

Despite the school board’s decision, some parents say they will continue to send their children to school with a mask.
