Marvel’s version of XCOM gets a release date again, plus some nice animated promos

Marvel’s Midnight Sunthat you may know SpandeXCOMShe got another release date (again). Publisher 2K Games announced the news today with a splashy animated promo the Showcase for Disney and Marvel games. It will be released on December 2nd for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
Despite only being a public item for a year, the Marvel-themed tactical game has made it through. First Announced during last year’s Gamescom Geoffstravaganza, midnight suns was originally given a release window for March 2022 (though without a specific date). By November 2021, just three months after its initial reveal, The game had already been postponed into the latter half of 2022. In June, during non-E3 2022, 2K gave it an October release date. then it was delayed again this past August, and with a new window to coincide with the fiscal year of 2K Games’ parent company, Take-Two Interactive — sometime on or before March 31, 2023.
However, this window only applies to the Xbox Series X/S and PC versions; The last generation console versions are only due in the long run. There’s no word yet on when those are expected.
But despite the turbulence midnight suns looked superb at every turn. Developed by Firaxis, midnight suns clearly follows in the grid-based footsteps of the studio’s alien tactics games, XCOM and XCOM2. Instead of a bunch of earthbound Space Marines, you control a cast of Marvel heroes including Doctor Strange, Wolverine, Iron Man, Captain America, Blade and Spider-Man. You can also create your own hero and customize its design and abilities.
The most interesting wrinkle, however, is the card-based mechanics. Instead of using a standard moveset, you start each round with a random hand of cards. Some can determine your movement options. Others could dictate what attacks or defensive moves you can make. Although it’s not exactly that XCOM Cloning that some Firaxis fans are hungering for should the mechanic shake up a long-standing formula. but XCOM Diehards might still balk at one facet: midnight suns will not have permadeath. Push the limits as much as you want, we can’t let these heroes die on screen!

A number of games from 2K have been bundled together. You can pay whatever you want to support the cause, but if you want access to some of the big hits like Borderlands 3, The Bioshock Collection, XCOM: The Ultimate Collection, and Sid Meier’s Civilizatrion VI, you’ll need to pay at least $16. But hey, that’s hardly anything compared to the $663 value you get from all 18 games combined.
