Marlins pitcher Daniel Castano takes Line Drive to the head

The Miami Marlins pitcher suffered a massive shock when a line drive hit him in the head. Fortunately, he was able to run away under his own power.

There are few things scarier on a baseball field than getting hit in the head by a line drive.

marlin Pitcher Daniel Castano faced that scenario Thursday when he faced the Reds in Cincinnati.

In the first inning, Donovan Solano’s 104-mph line drive drilled Castano in the forehead before being caught by the third baseman.

While Castano stayed down for a while, he was able to run away under his own power. He was diagnosed with a concussion and a CT scan turned out to be normal.

Incredibly, the brim of his hat seems to have made the first contact.

The situation could have been far worse, so Castano and everyone watching the play breathed a sigh of relief at the result.

“I think the first thing I asked was, ‘Did we figure this out?'” Castano joked, saying things went black when he was hit. “I’m a little upset right now but definitely better and I’m just grateful.”

Castano also credited Solano with coming to the hilltop to check on him.

The Marlins rode the relief that Solano was okay to a 7-6 win over Cincinnati. They were behind in the ninth inning before Jesus Sanchez hit a tied home run, Joey Wendle took the lead with an RBI double and Jesus Aguilar added an insurance run with a sacrificial fly. That final run came in handy when Tommy Pham put down a run on the board late in the night, but the Reds failed to produce a walk-off.
