The 44-year-old was allegedly left in a gully on the side of the road with life-threatening injuries.
Two women who were in a ride-sharing service saw Pierce and waited with him until help arrived, one of them resting his head on her lap.
He was taken to the hospital and later died.
On Saturday morning, police arrested a Narre Warren man in connection with the hit streak. Police also seized a black BMW sedan from his home in Narre Warren.
The 31-year-old is accused of failing to stop after a collision, failing to provide assistance and failing to reveal the driver’s identity from the registered owner.
Last week, Pierce’s widow, Kati Pierce, shared her heartbreak at the death of her partner.
“You know, it’s Christmas. We plan to do many things for the children and December is my birthday. We wanted to party together but he’s not here for me,” she told 7NEWS.
“I have no family here and I have three children and I don’t know what to do.
Pierce is survived by a four-year-old son and two teenagers.
The 31-year-old man was released on bail to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on December 9.
