Man in custody after emergency situation on Brisbane Street

A man has been taken into police custody following an emergency situation in south Brisbane.

Police previously closed a road in Sunnybank Hills, a Brisbane suburb, after making an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act.

The emergency declaration was issued at 1:13 p.m. and Bradman Street between Bellrick and Peterkin streets was closed to all pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Several houses on Morden Street were also affected.

Queensland Police later retracted the emergency declaration, confirming that a 25-year-old man was “assisting police in their investigation into the incident in which a 26-year-old woman was (allegedly) held at the knife point.”

“Negotiators and specialized police responded and resolved the incident quickly.”

The 26-year-old woman was taken to hospital for observation while the man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

“The investigation is ongoing,” police said.
