Man dies in car crash on NSW mid-north coast after vehicle becomes stuck mid-air

A man has died in a single vehicle car crash on the north mid-coast of New South Wales.

The car exited the western shoulder of the M1 at Eungai Rail, midway between Coffs Harbor and Port Macquarie, and collided with a concrete barrier around 10.30am on Friday.

The vehicle then came to a halt hovering in the air between a level crossing and the concrete barrier.

A man, believed to be in his 70s, was in the back seat of the car. He died at the scene of the accident.

The driver and passenger, both women in their 70s, were treated at the scene by paramedics.

Both women were taken to Coffs Harbor Base Hospital with serious injuries.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Anyone who witnessed the accident or has information about it is asked to contact the police.

A report is prepared for the coroner.
