LIBERTY, Mo. – A man who fatally wounded a woman in Northern Kansas City last year by intentionally setting her on fire has been found guilty of first-degree assault and armed criminal act.
Clay County jurors sentenced 26-year-old Tyriek Robinson Wednesday to the 2021 assault.
Northern Kansas City officials responded to the incident on January 31, 2021, near East 23rd Avenue and Swift Street, where they found the victim with severe burns and shock. The victim was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.
Robinson was located near the scene and was taken into custody. He admitted to having gone to a nearby gas station to fill an empty bottle with gasoline and then waiting for the victim outside of her working hours.
Robinson watched the victim leave work and parked her car right behind her residence to wait for the victim to arrive. When the victim arrived, Robinson approached her and poured gasoline from his bottle on the victim, then set her on fire with a lighter, according to court documents.
Sentencing hearing will take place on April 21, 2022, at 3:30 pm
Clay County Prosecutor Daniel White commended family members and kind Samaritans who were quick to assist the victim along with Northern Kansas City Officers who responded.
