Man charged with attempted murder after partner found with severe cuts to throat

A man has been charged with the alleged attempted murder of his partner in south-west Sydney after she was found with a severe laceration to the throat.

NSW Police were called to a home in Fairfield around 7.30am Monday following reports of a stabbing.

They were told that a 54-year-old woman had been taken to the hospital by a family member for emergency treatment of her throat.

She has since had surgery and is in serious condition at Liverpool Hospital.

Police officers confiscated a large knife from the apartment and arrested a 57-year-old man.

He was taken to Fairfield Police Station and charged with assault/grievous bodily harm with intent to murder.
