Man arrested after death and aggravated assault in north Melbourne after a major manhunt

A man accused of killing his brother and assaulting his mother has been charged by police.

Shaun Sanderson, 32, launched a seven-hour manhunt Wednesday following the suspected murder and attempted murder at a home in Reservoir.

He was arrested in Preston before 3 p.m.

Police announced Thursday morning that he has been formally charged with murder and attempted murder and will appear in court later in the day.

His arrest followed a wide-ranging search launched after a 29-year-old man was found dead and a 65-year-old woman seriously injured at a property in Reservoir on Wednesday morning.

Police and paramedics were called to the address at Willoughby St, Reservoir around 8.20am following reports of a suspected attack.

Sanderson’s brother is understood to have run from home to a nearby hospital – but later died.

A 65-year-old was taken to Royal Melbourne Hospital with serious injuries.

Police then issued an alert to locate Sanderson, who was initially believed to be inside the house but later confirmed he wasn’t inside.

Police believe those involved in the incident are known.

Homicide is investigating the murder and assault.
