Maine records 1,402 new COVID-19 cases, 18 deaths

AUGUST – The Maine Centers for Disease Control said Thursday that 1,402 new cases of COVID-19 have been detected statewide and that 18 more Maine people have died after contracting the disease, bringing the statewide death toll to 1,777 so far.

The new cases bring the total number of cases in the state as of March 2020 to 178,501. The Maine CDC also reported that there were 38,005 breakout cases as of Monday.

The latest Maine CDC COVID-19 statistics show a total of 3,979 Maine people hospitalized for the virus as of March 2020.

As of Wednesday, 344 people have been hospitalized with COVID-19. Of those, 83 are being treated in the intensive care unit, while 38 are on ventilators.

Also as of Wednesday, 2,492,316 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered across the state. Of those, 953,964 was the first dose, 977,759 was the final dose and 560,593 was the booster, the Maine CDC said.
